Translational research

Translational research bridges the gap between actual medical needs and theoretical scientific research conducted in the laboratory. The goal of translational research is to improve medical treatments and technologies in order to contribute to public health.

A fundamental part of our approach here at Bar-Ilan University and the Dangoor Center for Personalized Medicine, translational research emphasizes clinical research, observation within medical centers, creating collaborations, directing research towards patient and physician needs and examining feasibility- all with the ultimate goal of seeing research turned into treatments that help actual patients.  Additionally, translational research involves establishing university laboratories within hospitals, which facilitates direct and close collaboration between researchers and physicians.

For example, translational research might involve developing a new treatment for chronic heart disease in collaboration with cardiologists from a local hospital. Researchers collect clinical data from patients, analyze the results in the lab and develop new treatments to help patients. This process makes it possible to identify real medical needs and ensures that potential new treatments are tailored to the patients' requirements.
